Protecting Your Assets Is Key – Don’t Buy Junk

If you’re serious about protecting your assets with a surveillance system; then you are going to want to get serious about your surveillance equipment. To emphasize this point lets go over a few examples and ideas to help make sure you make the right decisions.

Don’t Skimp

Surveillance equipment can get expensive depending on the equipment, there’s no denying that fact. However with new technologies and advances in video resolution, you can get a high quality cctv system for far less than you might imagine.

For example, a lot of stores and businesses these days are still using surveillance systems they bought 20 or even 30 years ago. When this is the case and a burglary occurs; it is very difficult for the owners to present the evidence to law enforcement for a couple reasons.

The first reason is that surveillance systems that old usually don’t have convenient hard drive storage, USB backup, or DVD drives to store and present their footage from. In fact many of those systems use VHS tapes or even if they have an old hard drive, they will have to sift through all the footage for the right parts; where as a modern day system will have features such as date, time, or event lookup functionality.

Secondly, older systems such as these will have very poor resolution for the most part. In fact most people have probably seen barely recognizable black and white robbery footage on the news at one point or another. This will further complicate things for the police to try and apprehend the criminal.

Basically the point is this. If you’re truly serious about protecting your business or home from unwanted intruders or trespassers; then ditch the antiquated equipment and get a higher quality surveillance system that can actually perform the task it’s supposed to. In fact I know you can get an amazing system that will cost far less than that $2000 stuffed moose head you have hanging over your bar!

Cheaper Is Not Always Better

There is, and always will be a lot of websites and big box type dealers out there that can wholesale their equipment to you for pennies on the dime. There are a couple problems with taking this approach to buying your equipment.

Firstly, you should know that most places that do this will have very little if any type of tech support or customer service behind their products. In fact if they do have any form of tech support for their equipment, it will most likely be at a call center overseas or with an automated system that will make you want to pull your hair out.

Second of all, have you ever wondered why some of the big box stores out there can sell their equipment at such a low price? One of the biggest reasons is that it is generally subpar equipment sent from a plant somewhere in China. In fact from personal experience and knowledge I have found a lot of these great deals on equipment tend to be quite the racket as the equipment generally fails within a year or it is of a low quality make with inferior imaging and picture qualities.

The moral of this story is that it may cost you a little more to buy local or to buy from a specialized dealer, but the benefit of their expertise and customer service will far outweigh that trade off.

In the end you should always do your research and find a professional to talk to before making a purchase. This is the only way to make a serious and informed decision when it comes to protecting your assets.
